Algeria’s Leadership at the UN Seen as Key to Halting Attacks on Gaza
Algiers – Osama Hamdan, Head of the Arab and Islamic Relations Bureau of Hamas, expressed today in Algiers that the Palestinian people place their hopes on Algeria during its presidency of the United Nations Security Council to halt Israeli aggression on Gaza and end the ongoing crimes against Palestinians.
Speaking as a guest of the Algerian political movement Ennahda, Hamdan emphasized that “the entire Palestinian nation hopes Algeria will not only continue to prioritize the Palestinian cause at the Security Council but also succeed in stopping the aggression on Gaza and bringing an end to the crimes against the Palestinian people.” He noted that this aligns with the stance consistently articulated by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and other Algerian officials.
Algeria’s Role in Defending Palestine
Hamdan highlighted Algeria’s pivotal role in the international arena, stating that its efforts are appreciated not only by Hamas but by all Palestinians. He acknowledged Algeria’s influence in securing and amending key resolutions, as well as preventing the adoption of decisions that would condemn Palestinian resistance. “Algeria has always stood with Palestine, in times of both peace and conflict, supporting the Palestinian struggle across all spectrums,” he noted.
On Normalization with Israel
Addressing Morocco’s normalization of relations with Israel, Hamdan firmly stated that Hamas opposes normalization, calling it a “stab in the back of the Palestinian people.” He warned of the broader dangers, noting that Israel does not view the region as one for coexistence but as territory to dominate.
Ongoing Negotiations
Hamdan also disclosed that negotiations between Hamas and Israel are ongoing in Doha, Qatar, with Hamas working tirelessly to achieve its initial demands. He assured that updates regarding these talks would be shared as developments arise.
A Unified Palestinian Vision
Hamdan stressed the unwavering goal of the Palestinian people: liberation and the establishment of an independent, sovereign state. He asserted that “the world must understand that this objective is non-negotiable for Palestinians. The experience of negotiations with Israel has proven that the only viable path to achieving this is through resistance and confrontation, forcing Israel to retreat.”
Support from Algerian Political Leaders
Mohamed Douibi, Secretary-General of Ennahda, called on the Algerian people to continue supporting the Palestinian struggle and resistance. He remarked, “Before Palestinians ask for food and medicine, they demand their right to defend their land and sacred sites.”
Douibi further shed light on the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, urging solidarity with the Palestinian resistance to repel Israeli aggression and work toward the complete liberation of Palestine.
