Biskra – The Minister of Environment and Quality of Life, Ms. Nagiba Djilali, reaffirmed today in Biskra her ministry’s commitment to supporting investors in the circular economy and waste recycling to protect the environment and generate wealth.
During the second day of her visit to the province, Ms. Djilali engaged with several investors in the sector at the solid recyclable waste collection center in the Al-Mahajir region, 10 km west of Biskra. She emphasized that investors in waste management, who contribute to environmental preservation and material recovery, enjoy full support and assistance from the ministry. This includes organizing their activities as partners in safeguarding natural resources and ensuring a legal framework that enables them to operate efficiently.
The minister commended the efforts made in Biskra, where a dedicated space has been allocated for waste collection—an initiative marking a first at the national level. She highlighted that this support, provided locally or centrally, extends to training in the field and the issuance of certifications.
Ms. Djilali underlined that as part of ongoing efforts to develop the green economy, coordination with the industrial sector and startups ensures that all initiatives in this area receive the necessary backing.
She noted the growing significance of this sector in maintaining urban and agricultural environmental health, creating job opportunities, and enabling circular economy investors to produce exportable goods. The minister emphasized that the field is open to all aspiring investors.
On this occasion, alongside the Governor of Biskra, Mr. Lakhdar Seddas, the minister laid the foundation stone for a new technical landfill center in the municipality of Bouchegroun. Spanning 10 hectares, the facility will serve several municipalities, including Lichana, Bouchegroun, Ourlal, Melili, Mkhadma, and Lioua. The project, with a completion deadline of nine months, aims to combat the random disposal of waste and protect groundwater from pollution.
Yesterday, Ms. Djilali inspected various leisure and recreation areas across Biskra, which had undergone rehabilitation. She stressed the importance of establishing suitable spaces where families can gather, contributing to improved quality of life and well-being for citizens.
