Chairman of the Senate’s Foreign Affairs Committee Welcomes Russian State Duma Counterpart

The Chairman of the Senate’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and National Community Abroad, Mr. Mohamed Amroun, received today his counterpart from the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Mr. Leonid Slutsky. This meeting, according to a statement from the Council, was held under the directive of the Senate President, Mr. Salah Goudjil.

The statement indicated that the meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on several international and regional issues of mutual interest. Algeria and Russia, the statement emphasized, share strong ties of friendship, mutual respect, and fruitful cooperation, further strengthened under the leadership of Presidents Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Vladimir Putin.

Mr. Amroun praised the historic Algerian-Russian relations and the strategic partnership agreement that frames their cooperation across various fields. He highlighted the clear political will of both nations to enhance exchanges and broaden cooperation, particularly against the backdrop of Algeria’s ongoing economic renaissance.

During the meeting, Mr. Amroun reviewed Algeria’s achievements through profound reforms that introduced investment-friendly legislative frameworks. These efforts aim to foster wealth creation and build mutually beneficial relationships with global partners.

He also reiterated Algeria’s principled positions on various international, Arab, and African issues, commending the Russian-African partnership for its role in boosting African nations’ economic capacities.

For his part, Mr. Leonid Slutsky lauded the longstanding, high-quality relations between Russia and Algeria and the steady pace of coordination under the framework of the strategic partnership agreement signed by the two countries’ leaders. He emphasized Russia’s commitment to this partnership, recognizing Algeria as a significant and distinguished partner.

The Russian official also highlighted the positive diplomatic collaboration between the two nations within international organizations, praising Algeria’s effective role in the United Nations Security Council.

Expressing optimism about the future, Mr. Slutsky underscored the potential for deeper cooperation and enhanced ties between Algeria and Russia in a rapidly changing global landscape. As Chairman of the Parliamentary Group for the Liberal Democratic Party (the second-largest bloc in the State Duma), he affirmed that all political factions in Russia are eager to develop and elevate relations with Algeria to new heights.

The discussions also touched on the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories, as well as the situation in the Sahel region. Both sides agreed on the necessity of continued coordination to enable colonized peoples to exercise their right to self-determination and independence while addressing African challenges with African solutions.

Additionally, both parties called for intensified parliamentary cooperation between the Algerian Parliament and the Russian Federal Assembly. This includes promoting exchanges of visits and expertise and activating the friendship groups established by both councils to strengthen their parliamentary relations and enhance dialogue between the two nations’ representatives.
