Algiers, January 16, 2025 – The President of the People’s National Assembly, Ibrahim Boughali, announced the launch of the first national contest for middle school students under the theme “Algeria and Just Causes” on Thursday. This initiative represents a profound symbol of solidarity and justice—values that Algeria has upheld throughout its history.
During the launch event, held at the headquarters of the People’s National Assembly, Boughali described the contest as an innovative and unprecedented initiative. He emphasized its purpose of fostering creativity and opening new horizons for younger generations.
He stated, “This contest holds a deep symbolic meaning and embodies the values of solidarity and justice that Algeria has always championed. As a nation that endured the horrors of occupation and experienced the suffering of peoples aspiring for freedom and independence, Algeria deeply understands the significance of justice, liberty, and the right of nations to self-determination.”
Boughali also highlighted Algeria’s unwavering commitment to defending just causes worldwide and advocating for equality in the application of international law, free from double standards. He reaffirmed Algeria’s resilience in protecting its sovereignty and its rejection of any interference in its internal affairs.
Fostering National Awareness Among Youth
Explaining the goals of this educational initiative, Boughali noted that it aims to instill national awareness and nurture a sense of humanity among Algeria’s youth, who represent the nation’s future and the cornerstone of its continued progress. The contest also provides a platform to encourage students to research, think critically, and engage with the just causes Algeria has historically supported in international forums.
The contest is being organized by the People’s National Assembly’s Education Committee in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education, the Ministry of Mujahideen and Beneficiaries’ Rights, the Ministry of Culture and Arts, and the High Commission for Amazighity. Boughali expressed his gratitude for the efforts of these institutions in ensuring the contest’s success.
Commitment to National Dialogue
On a separate note, Boughali praised President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s initiative to launch a comprehensive national dialogue. This dialogue, he explained, aims to broaden consultation on preliminary legislative projects that will lay the foundation for institutional reform. The approach seeks to create optimal conditions for serving citizens, strengthening national unity, and bolstering Algeria’s sovereignty and independence.
Support for Palestine and International Justice
In addition to addressing national initiatives, Boughali welcomed the recent ceasefire agreement in Gaza, calling it “a first step toward ending the suffering of the Palestinian people and a glimmer of hope for stability in the region.”
He reaffirmed Algeria’s steadfast position in advocating for a comprehensive and just resolution that guarantees Palestinians full rights, foremost among them the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
This contest, alongside Algeria’s continued advocacy for just causes, demonstrates the nation’s enduring commitment to values of solidarity, justice, and the empowerment of future generations.
