Algeria – The National Independent Authority for Elections announced in a statement that as of 4:00 PM on Thursday, a total of 41 candidacy files had been submitted for the elections to renew half of the elected members of the Council of the Nation, scheduled for March 9, 2025. Among these, 21 files have been accepted.
According to the preliminary report issued by the authority regarding the process of candidacy submission and withdrawal, the breakdown is as follows:
- 143 candidacy forms were withdrawn.
- 41 candidacy files were submitted.
- 21 candidacy files were accepted, including 7 candidates sponsored by political parties and 14 independent candidates.
- 7 candidacy files were rejected due to the absence of a certificate of endorsement signed by the party’s top official.
- 13 candidacy files remain under review.
These elections are being conducted in accordance with Presidential Decree No. 25-56, issued on January 22, 2025, and in line with Organic Law No. 21-01 governing the electoral system, enacted on March 10, 2021.
The process of candidacy submission and review is ongoing, with final lists expected to be confirmed in the coming days.
