Algeria – Minister of Finance, Laziz Faid, presided over the official appointment ceremony of Tewfik Haj Massoud as the new Director-General of the National Office of Statistics (ONS) on Thursday. The ceremony took place at the Ministry of Finance headquarters, in the presence of senior officials, according to an official statement from the ministry.
ONS: A Key Player in Economic Planning
During the ceremony, Minister Faid emphasized the strategic role of the National Office of Statistics in producing reliable and up-to-date data, which serves as a critical tool for shaping public policies and guiding economic reforms.
He also highlighted the importance of strengthening statistical capabilities by modernizing data collection and analysis tools. In this regard, he expressed confidence in the new director’s ability to meet the challenges of developing the national statistical system, particularly through accelerating digitalization and modernizing operational methods.

Minister Faid stressed the need to maintain ongoing efforts to modernize the sector while preserving existing achievements and integrating innovative methodologies.
