Addis Ababa – The African leaders gathered at the summit held on February 15-16 in Addis Ababa congratulated the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, for the “exceptional” success achieved by the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) under his leadership.
In a declaration published after the conclusion of their annual summit, the leaders stated that the summit “congratulates the Chairperson of the APRM Forum, His Excellency President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, for his outstanding leadership of the African Peer Review Mechanism and the exceptional success achieved by the mechanism under his stewardship.”
The Heads of State and Government of the African Union also congratulated President Tebboune for his “enlightened leadership of the APRM” and his “unwavering commitment to promoting democracy and good governance across the continent.”
After expressing their “deep gratitude” for the voluntary contribution of $1 million made by President Tebboune to support the mechanism, the African leaders renewed their congratulations to President Tebboune “for this steadfast commitment aimed at ensuring full ownership of the African Peer Review Mechanism by member states.”
The Executive Director of the Continental Secretariat of the African Peer Review Mechanism, Marie Antoinette Rose Quartey, expressed her “profound gratitude” to Algeria in a statement to the press following the signing of a memorandum of understanding regarding the financial contribution approved by Algeria. She affirmed that this initiative demonstrates Algeria’s “unwavering commitment to African unity and cooperation.”
She added: “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Algeria for its confidence in the African Peer Review Mechanism and its steadfast commitment to African unity, renaissance, and the swift realization of our peoples’ aspirations as outlined in Agenda 2063 of the African Union.”
On another note, the Heads of State and Government of the African Union expressed their “deep appreciation” to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, as well as to Ethiopian President Taye Assefa, Kenyan President William Ruto, and Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema, for their “unwavering support in establishing the African Credit Rating Agency, which will be overseen by the private sector and based on self-financing.”
