Judo / African Open Tournament in Tunisia: Algeria Secures First Place with 12 Medals

Algiers – The Algerian judo team (men and women) claimed first place at the African Open Tournament in Tunisia, which concluded on Sunday evening, with a total of 12 medals (2 gold, 3 silver, and 7 bronze).

The United States team finished second on the podium with 2 gold and 2 silver medals, while Iran took third place with 2 gold and 1 silver medal.

For their part, the Tunisian team, which fielded 40 judokas (21 men and 19 women), settled for seventh place with 3 bronze medals.

The Algerian gold medals were won by Khadidja Bekhira (-57 kg) and Maroua Mameri (+78 kg). Silver medals were awarded to Faiza Issahen (-52 kg), Othman Arabawi (-100 kg), and Mohamed El Mahdi Lili (+100 kg).

A total of 198 judokas (118 men and 80 women) representing 19 countries participated in the African Open Tournament in Tunisia. Algeria had the largest delegation with 45 judokas (30 men and 15 women).

The Algerian team is now preparing to compete in the African Judo Championships for cadets, juniors, and seniors, scheduled to take place from February 20 to 23 at the Olympic Complex “Mohamed Boudiaf” in Algiers.
