Algiers – The Committee for Economic Affairs, Development, Industry, Trade, and Planning of the People’s National Council held a meeting today Sunday dedicated to studying a draft law regulating mining activities, in the presence of representatives from the geology sector and academic experts, as stated in a council statement.
Committee President Mohammed Hannouni emphasized at the start of the meeting that these gatherings provide an opportunity to exchange scientific and technical expertise, contributing to the development of the mining sector and enhancing its contribution to the national economy.
On this occasion, Mr. Khama Abderrazak, Director of the Algerian Geological Service, presented an overview of the service’s missions, stressing the importance of the draft law in regulating and monitoring minerals within national territory.
Professor Rabah Gueshied, a professor at the Petroleum and Renewable Energies, Earth and Space Sciences Faculty, highlighted the pivotal role of universities in training specialized talents and the importance of scientific research in supporting the mining sector.
During the discussion, committee members addressed several topics, including mechanisms for mineral resource exploration, protection of rare rocks, economic feasibility assessments for mining projects, and ways to encourage domestic and foreign investment.
This meeting is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the legal framework for mining activities, ensuring sustainable exploitation of the nation’s mineral wealth, according to the statement.
