A joint parliamentary delegation from both chambers, led by National People’s Assembly President Ibrahim Boughali, will participate in the 150th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly and related meetings in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from April 3–9, according to a Thursday statement from the Council of the Nation.
Authorized by Council President Saleh Goudjil, the delegation will address topics under the general debate theme “Parliamentary Action for Social Development and Justice,” as outlined in the agendas of IPU committees and bodies.
The assembly will adopt resolutions on an emergency item—selected by members—addressing a critical international situation requiring urgent global action, alongside decisions on parliaments’ roles in promoting the two-state solution in Palestine and parliamentary strategies to mitigate long-term conflict impacts, including armed conflicts, on sustainable development, the statement added.
The Algerian delegation will also join coordination meetings of the Arab and African geopolitical groups and the Islamic States group. Representing the Council of the Nation are Ahmed Kharchi, IPU Vice-President; Abdelrahman Guenchouba, head of the National Rally parliamentary group and IPU member; and Kamel Khelifati, Council member and IPU participant.
