In a speech delivered on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, in New York, Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amar Ben Jaber, emphasized that the humanitarian aid entering Gaza is “a drop in the ocean of need.” He called on the Israeli occupation to open all crossings and roads to ensure humanitarian access. Ben Jaber stressed that Algeria is not indifferent to human suffering and that humanitarian assistance is a sacred duty, not an option. He reaffirmed that Algeria considers the right to food a fundamental right, as stipulated in Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. He also condemned the Israeli occupation for denying the existence of famine in Gaza and for cutting off food, water, electricity, and medicine. Ben Jaber further underlined that aerial drops are not a solution and urged for the opening of all humanitarian access points. He concluded by calling for an immediate, unconditional ceasefire to save lives and protect the hopes and dreams of future generations.
