Sofiane Shaib, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, responsible for the national community abroad, highlighted Algeria’s efforts to support landlocked African countries in their development journey. Speaking from Awaza, Turkmenistan, during the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, Shaib stressed that Algeria, as a “transit state” under the UN’s development concept, is actively involved in large-scale infrastructure projects across Africa, such as the Trans-Saharan Highway, the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline, and the Trans-Saharan Fiber Optic Link. He emphasized the challenges these countries face, including insufficient infrastructure investment, technological transport deficiencies, limited international financial resources, and climate change, and pointed out that the outcomes of this conference, along with the Fourth UN Conference on Financing for Development held in Seville in June 2025, would help address these developmental challenges.
