CHAN 2024 (Postponed to 2025): Reserve Players Feature in Training Match During National Team’s Recovery Session

Kampala – The Algerian national football team for local-based players resumed preparations on Saturday evening, with reserve players taking part in a training match against Kampala City FC, a Ugandan Premier League side, at the Kadiba Stadium in the capital, according to a statement from the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) published on its official website.

Head coach Madjid Bougherra organized this friendly test for players who have seen limited playing time since the start of the African Nations Championship (CHAN), with the aim of keeping them match-ready and providing additional options for the remainder of the tournament. Algeria won the match 2-0, with second-half goals from Tayeb Meziani and Dia Eddine Mched.

Meanwhile, the starting players from the previous match against South Africa underwent a recovery session alongside the team’s fitness coach.

The “Greens” will have their first day off on Sunday since arriving in Kampala, before resuming training ahead of their next group-stage fixture against Guinea, scheduled for Friday, August 15.

In the third round — in which Bougherra’s side will be exempt — South Africa will face Guinea on Monday at 15:00, while Uganda will meet Niger at 18:00.

With four points, Algeria currently tops Group C, ahead of Guinea and Uganda (three points each). South Africa sits third with one point, and Niger is bottom with zero points.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the quarter-finals, set for August 22 and 23.
