Guatemala City – Toufik Qazout, Vice President of the Algerian National People’s Assembly, and his accompanying delegation were received at the headquarters of the Congress of the Republic of Guatemala by his Guatemalan counterpart, Mario Gálvez, in the presence of Edgar de León, Vice President of the Central American Parliament (PARLACEN), according to a statement from the National People’s Assembly.
The two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two legislative bodies, expressing their full readiness to collaborate through available diplomatic mechanisms and to activate them. They also emphasized the importance of coordination and cooperation in international and regional parliamentary forums.
Qazout affirmed that Algeria holds steadfast positions rooted in its glorious liberation history, which are reflected today in its foreign policy based on respect for the sovereignty of states, non-interference in their internal affairs, support for peoples’ right to self-determination, and adherence to international legitimacy.
For his part, a member of the Guatemalan Congress’s office expressed pride in hosting the first Algerian parliamentary delegation at the Congress, underscoring his commitment to maintaining and strengthening this channel of communication. At the conclusion of the meeting, the delegation was invited to tour the Congress.
This meeting took place on the sidelines of the Algerian National People’s Assembly delegation’s visit to Guatemala to participate in the General Assembly of the Central American Parliament (PARLACEN).
