International Desert Tourism Festival to be held in Timimoun from December 4 to 6

Algiers – The Ministry of Tourism and Traditional Industry will organize the International Desert Tourism Festival in Timimoun Province from December 4 to 6, according to a ministry statement released Thursday.

Minister Horia Madahi chaired a coordination meeting today to oversee the initial preparations for the festival (FITS-2025), scheduled to take place in Timimoun during this period.

The minister highlighted that this meeting is part of the ministry’s approach to reviving tourism as a vital sector that the Algerian public authorities prioritize, aiming to make it a key pillar in local development.

She emphasized the sector’s role as a main driver of the local economy, requiring the involvement of all key stakeholders. She also underlined the importance of desert tourism in ensuring sustainable development in southern Algeria.

The meeting also officially appointed the festival’s steward, represented by the Director General of the National Tourism Office, which is responsible for tourism promotion and development.

Minister Madahi stressed the importance of preparations for this international event and ensuring it reflects its economic dimension, especially as it will showcase the cultural and historical assets as well as the rich natural heritage of the Algerian Sahara.

The festival is expected to provide a platform to present unique tourism experiences that enhance the status of desert regions as attractive destinations nationally and internationally, the minister affirmed.

The objective of this edition is to highlight an authentic and distinctive Algerian desert tourism with all its rich components and heritage. Accordingly, the minister provided directions to involve all southern provinces and highland areas in this effort.

Regarding event promotion, she emphasized the need to start preparing media content befitting this festival, aligned with the promotional vision for Algerian tourist destinations, including the authentic desert destination.
