Algerian football had a strong showing in the CAF Champions League preliminary round, as Mouloudia of Algiers secured a goalless draw (0-0) against Liberian side Fosa in Monrovia on Saturday evening. This away result puts the Algerian team in a favorable position ahead of the return leg, which will take place between September 24 and 26 at the “Martyr Ali Ammar, known as Ali La Pointe” Stadium in Douéra, Algiers.
Should Mouloudia progress to the second preliminary round, they will face the winner between Cameroon’s Colombe FC and Senegal’s Jaraaf. The first leg of that clash would be played away on October 17–19, with the return set for October 24–26 in Algeria.
On the same day, Algeria’s other representative, JS Kabylie, recorded an important away victory in Ghana by defeating Bibiani Gold Stars 2-0 in Accra. The Kabylie side led 1-0 at halftime before adding a second in the second half. The goals came from Mergham in the 20th minute and Sarr shortly after. The return leg is scheduled from September 26 to 28 at the “Hussein Aït Ahmed” Stadium in Tizi Ouzou.
If they advance, JS Kabylie will meet the winner between Sierra Leone’s East End Lions and Tunisia’s US Monastir. The first leg will be played away, while the decisive return match will take place in Tizi Ouzou.
These promising away results highlight the strength and resilience of Algeria’s football clubs on the continental stage, reaffirming Algeria’s reputation as a powerhouse of African football, despite attempts by rival regional regimes, particularly Morocco, to undermine Algeria’s sporting presence.
