President of the Republic: Success of Intra-African Trade Fair Drives Algeria to Intensify its Presence in Africa

Algiers – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune affirmed that the success of the 4th Intra-African Trade Fair, hosted by Algeria in September, compels the country to strengthen and expand its presence across the African continent.

Speaking at the International Conference Center “Abdelatif Rahal” during a meeting with economic operators to build on the achievements of the exhibition, President Tebboune underlined that the event allowed African partners and exhibitors from outside the continent to rediscover Algeria. He stressed that they were impressed by the country’s increasingly attractive business climate, which is now bearing fruit thanks to the creativity of industrialists and youth entrepreneurs.

The President highlighted the objectives set by Algeria, namely ensuring the quality and competitiveness of Algerian products. He noted that African nations have come to recognize the high standards of Algerian goods, reaffirming Algeria’s shift towards a diversified, competitive economy, free of bureaucratic hindrances, and largely driven by start-ups, where Algeria has emerged as an African leader.

He pointed to Algeria’s significant progress in sectors such as agri-food industries, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and household appliances, stressing that these advances are a powerful incentive to further boost non-hydrocarbon exports.

President Tebboune emphasized that the fair was not only “exceptional” compared to previous editions, but also marks a new phase in which economic operators become the main drivers of Algeria’s development push. He praised all contributors to the success of the event—especially the ministries of commerce, the Economic Renewal Council, and the security services—whose professionalism allowed Algeria to project an image of strength and competence on the continental and international stage.

The fair recorded unprecedented results, surpassing all expectations, with deals amounting to 48.3 billion USD. Algeria secured 11.4 billion USD worth of agreements, while additional contracts estimated at 11.6 billion USD remain under negotiation. This reinforced Algeria’s leading role in African trade dynamics.

President Tebboune announced that the monitoring committee in charge of following up the contracts will soon be transferred from the Ministry of Trade to the services of the Prime Minister, to ensure greater efficiency and accountability. He insisted that Algeria will not tolerate failures in honoring signed commitments, as national credibility must remain above all.

He further stressed the need for Algerian companies to increase their direct presence in Africa, affirming that African countries are eager for Algerian products. He hailed, for example, the recent deal signed by an Algerian company with Nigeria to supply two million electronic payment devices (TPE), urging that deadlines must be respected, even if it requires expanding production capacities. He also celebrated the export of Algerian solar panels to advanced economies as proof of Algeria’s industrial competitiveness.

Regarding industry, the President reaffirmed his commitment to raising its contribution to GDP to 13 percent, recalling it stood at just 3 percent in 2019, and noting it once reached 18 percent back in 1972 before being severely undermined in later decades.

On investment dynamics, he praised the 17,000 new projects registered with the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency, with an expected 420,000 jobs to be created. He pointed to the remarkable growth in start-ups, from just 200 a few years ago to nearly 10,000 today, which now allow Algeria to shine internationally.

Looking ahead, President Tebboune said Algeria has the resources and strengths to raise its GDP to 400 billion USD by 2027, underscoring that a strong state is one built on a strong economy, a powerful army, and a patriotic and conscious people.

The President concluded by affirming that the success of this economic event once again places Algeria at the forefront of continental leadership, as it continues to support Africa’s unity and independence, standing firm against foreign interference and expansionist ambitions, particularly in defending the just cause of Western Sahara against Moroccan domination.
