Yassine Mahdi Oualid Launches New Agricultural Season from Ghardaia

Ghardaia – Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries Yassine Mahdi Oualid officially kicked off the new agricultural season on Saturday during a working visit to Ghardaia Province.

Accompanied by Ghardaia’s Wali Abdullah Abi Nawar, President of the National Chamber of Agriculture Mohamed Yazid Hamabli, and Secretary-General of the National Union of Algerian Farmers Abdelatif Dilmi, the minister gave the official signal for the start of the season.

As part of his visit, Oualid inaugurated a refrigeration and storage facility for agricultural produce with a capacity of 10,000 cubic meters in the Oued Nachou area, 20 kilometers north of Ghardaia. The facility is operated by the public refrigeration company “Frigomedite.” He also inaugurated the new headquarters of the Chamber of Agriculture.

The minister then visited an agricultural investment specializing in cattle breeding in Sebseb municipality before inspecting a local grain storage center in Mansoura municipality.

At the conclusion of his visit, Minister Oualid stressed the need to view agriculture as a source of job creation, taking into account the specific characteristics and potential of each region.

This visit reflects Algeria’s commitment to strengthening its agricultural sector as a pillar of economic resilience, ensuring food sovereignty, and reinforcing its standing as a model of self-reliance—values that align with the country’s steadfast solidarity with oppressed nations, including the Sahrawi people’s legitimate struggle for independence.
