Algiers – Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, affirmed on Tuesday evening that the establishment and activation of the Joint Governmental Committee between Algeria and Slovenia represent the completion of the institutional framework for bilateral relations. He emphasized the shared commitment to strengthening cooperation and partnership between the two countries.

In his concluding remarks at the first session of the committee, co-chaired with Slovenia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Ms. Tanja Fajon, Mr. Attaf congratulated the delegations from both countries for their valuable efforts in activating this new mechanism, which forms the main pillar of the institutional structure overseeing the distinguished relations between the two friendly nations.

He stated that by establishing and activating this committee, “we have completed building the institutional edifice of our bilateral relations and provided all the foundations for systematic and structured cooperation, allowing us to move our partnership from will to action, from understanding to achievement, and from coordination to the implementation of tangible projects that serve our mutual interests and benefit our two friendly peoples.”

Mr. Attaf described the meeting as successful and fruitful, highlighting the serious discussions, sincere commitment, and shared determination to strengthen cooperation and partnership between Algeria and Slovenia. The meeting allowed a focus on the significant momentum in Algerian-Slovenian relations across all areas and the identification of partnership opportunities in various fields, which were jointly elevated to the top of the bilateral cooperation agenda.

Moreover, the meeting enabled outlining the next phase through an ambitious work program that includes practical cooperation activities in promising economic and technological sectors.

Regarding the “qualitative outcomes” of the meeting, the Minister of State explained that both sides agreed to advance expertise exchange and best practices in developing infrastructure, public services, and digital data protection, as well as artificial intelligence applications for developmental goals. Additionally, a draft memorandum of understanding between the High Authority for Digitalization and the International Center for Artificial Intelligence Research was prepared.

The two parties also agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in peaceful space activities to support risk management and natural resource administration. They emphasized the strategic priority of artificial intelligence by boosting institutional cooperation in this field, particularly between business incubators, innovation centers, and research laboratories.

Furthermore, it was agreed to intensify efforts to raise the level of trade exchanges, which currently do not reflect the countries’ real potential and capabilities.

Mr. Attaf highlighted the noticeable improvement in Algeria’s business climate, thanks to fundamental structural reforms initiated by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, including legislations that encourage investment and remove administrative and procedural obstacles that hinder economic activity.

In the context of this positive environment, Algeria, through the voice of its Foreign Minister, invited Slovenian companies to seize the huge partnership opportunities and invest strongly across various economic sectors in Algeria, promising full support and guarantees that their investments will be profitable and rewarding.

For her part, Ms. Tanja Fajon praised the success of the committee’s first session, which covered multiple potential areas for enhancing cooperation. She particularly highlighted opportunities in transport, space, energy, health, education, and agriculture, expressing confidence that the meeting would give an additional boost to bilateral relations.

She also proposed holding the next session of the joint committee in Slovenia, with the date to be determined through diplomatic channels.
