Algeria’s National Football Team Begins Preparations for Somalia Match

Algiers – The Algerian national football team, known as “Les Fennecs,” began their preparations on Monday evening for the upcoming match against Somalia, scheduled for Thursday at the Miloud Hadefi Stadium in Oran. The first training session took place on one of the pitches at the National Technical Center in Sidi Moussa, according to the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) on its official website.

The training session started at 5:00 PM and saw the coaching staff divide players into two groups. The first group included those who played for their clubs on Sunday and underwent a special recovery program under physical trainer Paulo Rongoni. The remaining players took part in a regular training session focused on technical and tactical aspects.

Before the session, national coach Vladimir Petković addressed the team in a brief meeting, emphasizing the importance of approaching this match with full seriousness to secure victory and earn the crucial three points. These points would guarantee Algeria’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup ahead of their final group match against Uganda, scheduled for October 14 in Tizi Ouzou.

Following the eighth round of qualifiers held in September, Algeria leads Group G with 19 points — four points ahead of Mozambique and Uganda, each with 15 points. Guinea holds fourth place with 11 points, followed by Botswana with 9 points, and Somalia languishes at the bottom with a single point.

This match represents a critical step for Algeria to maintain its dominant position in the group and take one step closer to securing its place in the upcoming World Cup, a goal that aligns with the nation’s sporting ambitions and pride.President Tebboune Receives Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister
