, Algerian National Gendarmerie dismantled a dangerous neighborhood gang operating in the Douar Ouled El Bachir area of Khair Eddine municipality, Mostaganem province. The operation, conducted by the Regional Gendarmerie Battalion of Ain Tedles, focused on combating street gangs involved in drug trafficking and the distribution of psychotropic substances. The raid was initiated based on credible intelligence indicating the presence of a criminal group dealing drugs and forming a street gang comprised of teenagers and young adults. This gang allegedly used violence, bladed weapons, and dogs to exert control over the area, creating an atmosphere of fear among residents and users of National Road 90A. Numerous complaints and reports were filed via the green number 1055.Following the analysis of the available information, a comprehensive security plan was implemented. This involved deploying gendarmerie personnel, closing all access points to the area, establishing checkpoints, and creating a secure perimeter. The subsequent field intervention resulted in the arrest of 13 individuals associated with the network.Further investigation, authorized by the Public Prosecutor at the Ain Tedles Court, led to the search of the suspects’ homes. These searches yielded significant findings, including five large swords, two daggers, and 60 pregabalin (“Lyrica”) tablets with a concentration of 300mg. Additionally, five small bags containing a total of eight grams of cocaine, ten Ketile tablets (another type of psychotropic drug), and a tear gas canister were seized. Law enforcement also confiscated three vehicles and three motorcycles suspected of being used in the gang’s activities.In a related development, a relative of one of the suspects, whose home was searched under court order, posted a video on social media claiming that the National Gendarmerie had vandalized his property without justification. However, investigations revealed that the residence had been used to conceal psychotropic substances. Authorities discovered 45 pregabalin 300mg tablets hidden inside the house by a member of the gang.Upon completion of all legal procedures and investigations, the detainees will be presented before the competent judicial authorities to face charges including forming a neighborhood gang, possession and illegal trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances, carrying prohibited category six weapons without legal justification, and spreading false information via social media.
