DOHA – Qatar Charity (QC), in partnership with the Syrian Forum, has launched the “Our Children’s Safety” project in Azaz, Syria, aiming to bolster the protection of children impacted by the ongoing crisis and provide a safe and supportive environment for them and their families. The initiative comes as the Second World Social Development Summit approaches in Doha next week, with a focus on inclusive policies that promote fair opportunities and accelerate social integration. This commitment underscores Qatar’s dedication to humanitarian aid and child welfare in conflict zones.
The “Our Children’s Safety” project aims to directly benefit over 3,900 children and their families through a comprehensive range of integrated activities. These include vital psychosocial support sessions designed to address the emotional and psychological trauma experienced by children affected by conflict. Awareness programs will also be implemented, focusing on critical child protection issues, educating communities about risks and preventative measures. Recognizing the crucial role of parents and caregivers, the project will provide targeted training sessions for mothers and fathers, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to effectively support their children’s well-being.
Furthermore, the initiative will offer specialized case management services for children deemed most vulnerable, ensuring they receive the individualized attention and resources they need to navigate challenging circumstances. This includes connecting children with appropriate services and advocating for their rights. A core component of the project is the implementation of a “Learning Through Play” program. This innovative approach aims to enhance children’s social and emotional skills in a fun and engaging way, fostering resilience and positive development. The program is designed to create a supportive and inclusive environment where children can learn, grow, and heal from the trauma they have experienced.
In addition to psychosocial support and educational initiatives, the project also prioritizes the integration of children with disabilities. By providing tailored support and resources, the initiative aims to ensure that these children have equal opportunities to participate in community life and reach their full potential. Recognizing the importance of sustainable infrastructure, the project will also focus on improving the readiness of the child protection center in Azaz. This includes providing essential equipment and resources to ensure the continued delivery of high-quality services.
At the inauguration ceremony, Mohammed Barakat, Assistant Director of Social Affairs and Labor in Aleppo, emphasized the critical importance of the program. “This program is extremely important at this stage, especially since children are exposed to various risks represented by the remnants and effects of the war, the loss of fathers and mothers, and perhaps the loss of a breadwinner,” he stated. He further added that affected cases are in dire need of such centers that compensate them for what they have lost during the years of war, extending his gratitude to Qatar Charity, the Syrian Forum, and the donors in Qatar for establishing such centers.
Karam Ali, Director of Qatar Charity’s office in Turkey, affirmed that the project aligns with Qatar Charity’s strategic goal of protecting children’s rights and improving their psychological and social well-being in crisis-affected areas. This commitment reflects Qatar Charity’s humanitarian principles in caring for children and mitigating the impact of conflicts on communities.
