The Algerian government is closely monitoring the health of Samir Zaitouni, an Algerian citizen who bravely intervened during a recent knife attack on a train in the United Kingdom. Sofiane Chaib, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of the National Community Abroad, confirmed that Algerian diplomatic and consular missions are actively following the situation.
In a statement, Chaib emphasized that the Algerian embassies and consulates in London are providing constant updates on Zaitouni’s condition. The Consul General of Algeria in London, Abdelmadjid Amini, was immediately dispatched to the hospital to check on Zaitouni, who is currently in critical condition at Huntingdon Hospital, located approximately 120 kilometers from London.
Chaib lauded Zaitouni’s exceptional courage and heroism, which he said has sparked a wave of sympathy, appreciation, and admiration within British political circles and society. He stated that Zaitouni’s spontaneous act of providing assistance and support with rare bravery, regardless of the circumstances and sacrifices, is characteristic of the authentic Algerian values of courage, chivalry, and humanity, deeply rooted in the hearts of Algerians wherever they are in the world.
“Our Consulate General continues to monitor the developments in our citizen’s health and remains fully mobilized alongside the victim’s family and the medical team, with whom the Consul General remains in constant personal contact,” Chaib concluded.
