Algiers, November 9, 2025 – Sonelgaz, the national electricity and gas company, has announced the successful completion of a critical gas pipeline connection. The operation involved linking a high-pressure, 28-inch gas pipeline between Hamadi and El Hamma to a 16-inch gas pipeline crossing Oued El Harrach.
The intricate operation, lasting 21 consecutive hours, was executed while ensuring the continuous supply of natural gas to customers. This connection is part of Sonelgaz-Transport Gas’s routine maintenance program, designed to guarantee the efficient and safe transport of natural gas, adhering to the highest international safety and environmental protection standards.
The Hamadi-El Hamma gas pipeline is of paramount importance, serving as a vital artery supplying the eastern part of Algiers. Furthermore, it feeds numerous vital facilities and major economic sectors. This operation complements a previous inspection using a magnetic flux leakage (MFL) tool, a state-of-the-art technology for gas pipeline maintenance.
To ensure the success of this sensitive operation, the Algiers Gas Transport region, in coordination with local authorities and Sonelgaz-Distribution, held regular and special meetings with the security committee. These meetings aimed to secure the necessary permits and raise awareness about the importance and sensitivity of the operation, reinforcing cooperation with all stakeholders. Special mention was given to the Office of Parks and Recreation of the Wilaya of Algiers, and the Public Establishment of the Wilaya responsible for the management and promotion of the rehabilitated Oued El Harrach, both under the supervision of the Wilaya of Algiers.
The Gas Transport regions of Blida and Constantine also contributed to the success of the operation by providing logistics and the necessary equipment. The project required the mobilization of numerous units and the deployment of approximately 94 qualified personnel, including engineers and executives, as well as 27 specialized construction vehicles.
This successful connection reinforces Sonelgaz’s commitment to maintaining a reliable and safe gas supply network for Algeria.
