Former U.S. President Joe Biden has launched a scathing attack on current President Donald Trump, accusing him of undermining American democracy and threatening the nation’s stability. Biden asserts that Trump’s controversial decisions within the White House are deeply damaging.
Speaking at a Democratic Party event in Omaha, Nebraska on Friday evening, Biden stated that Trump has not only “demolished the walls of the White House but has also struck at the foundations of the Constitution and the rule of law.” He added, “I knew he would take a wrecking ball to the country, but I never imagined it would be a literal wrecking ball.”
Biden’s comments were a direct response to the partial demolition work initiated by Trump in one of the White House wings, with the stated intention of converting it into a banquet hall. This move has sparked widespread controversy, despite Trump’s assurances that it “will not affect the main historical building.”
During his speech, Biden accused his Republican rival of “bringing shame” to the United States and prioritizing the interests of the wealthy over the needs of ordinary citizens. He pointed to recent election results in New Jersey, Virginia, and New York City as “an electoral slap and a clear message of rejection of Trump’s policies.”
Biden had maintained a relatively low public profile since leaving the White House in January. He was initially preparing to run against Trump again before withdrawing from the race following a televised debate described by the media as “disastrous.” Kamala Harris subsequently took his place in the presidential contest.
Reports earlier this year indicated that Biden had been diagnosed with prostate cancer, raising questions about his health and political future.
