Paris, November 10, 2025 – Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been released from prison following a ruling by the Paris Court of Appeal. The court approved the request for early release submitted by Sarkozy’s legal team.
Sarkozy, who had been incarcerated since October 21st, will be placed under judicial supervision according to the court’s decision. He was serving a five-year sentence related to the alleged illegal funding of his 2007 presidential campaign by Libya.
The 70-year-old former president was initially sentenced on September 25th and subsequently detained in La Santé prison in Paris. His imprisonment marked a historic moment, making him the first former French president in modern history to be incarcerated.
The conditions of Sarkozy’s judicial supervision have not yet been fully disclosed, but they are expected to include restrictions on his movement and potentially require him to report regularly to authorities.
This is a developing story and DZWatch will continue to provide updates as they become available.
