The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, arrived in Algeria today, Monday, for an official state visit. The visit underscores the strengthening ties between the two nations.
President Mohamud was received at Algiers International Airport by the Speaker of the People’s National Assembly, Ibrahim Boughali, representing Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. Several government ministers and senior state officials were also present.
According to a statement from the People’s National Assembly, this visit aims to bolster the fraternal relations and cooperation between Algeria and the Federal Republic of Somalia. The goal is to elevate these relations to higher levels, reflecting the deep historical bonds that unite the two countries and their respective peoples. Both leaderships are keen on expanding partnership and coordination in areas of mutual interest.
Algeria and Somalia are looking forward to injecting new dynamism into their bilateral cooperation, serving the interests of both nations and their people. This is driven by a strong political will on both sides, building upon their established historical ties.
These robust historical relations, strengthened by values of understanding, solidarity, and mutual trust, are expected to be further enhanced and elevated during President Mohamud’s official visit to Algeria.
The relationship between the two countries has witnessed significant momentum in recent years, reflected in continuous communication between the two leaders. This confirms their aspiration for a new phase of fruitful cooperation and unified efforts on issues of common concern. Algeria’s consistent support for Somalia in all circumstances also plays a crucial role.
President Tebboune met with his Somali counterpart in early November 2022, on the sidelines of the 31st Arab League Summit hosted by Algeria. During that meeting, the Somali President praised Algeria’s efforts to support joint Arab action. He also expressed his country’s appreciation for President Tebboune’s sincere efforts to reconcile Palestinian factions and achieve a settlement between them. President Tebboune also sent a written message to his Somali counterpart last December, delivered by the Minister of Higher Education.
