DZWatch Exclusive: Northern Algeria, particularly the western and central regions, is bracing for an unseasonably warm heatwave starting today, Tuesday, and lasting through Friday. According to meteorological services, a strong high-pressure system over the Mediterranean Sea is the cause of this significant temperature spike.
Following recent rainfall, clear skies and stable weather conditions are expected across the northern provinces. However, this will be accompanied by a surge in temperatures, exceeding the average for this time of year. In some areas, temperatures are forecast to reach a scorching 36 degrees Celsius in the shade.
The meteorological authorities attribute this heatwave to the presence of a high-pressure zone over the Mediterranean. This has led to the influx of warm, south to south-westerly air currents towards the north, resulting in the marked increase in temperatures.
During this period, temperatures in the western and central regions are expected to fluctuate between 30 and 36 degrees Celsius. The eastern provinces will experience relatively milder conditions, with temperatures ranging from 20 to 25 degrees Celsius. In the southern regions, temperatures will vary between 25 and 35 degrees Celsius.
Long-range weather forecasts indicate a gradual shift in weather patterns starting next Sunday. A low-pressure system approaching from the western Mediterranean is expected to bring considerable rainfall to most northern provinces beginning on Monday. DZWatch will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
