Algeria and Somalia Affirm Support for Palestinian State

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune expressed his satisfaction with the recent discussions held with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in Algiers. The leaders affirmed a shared commitment to supporting the Palestinian people’s right to establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

In a joint statement following their meeting at the Algerian Presidential Palace, President Tebboune stated that the discussions provided an opportunity to review several issues and exchange perspectives on both Arab and African levels. A key focus was the Palestinian cause, with both presidents reiterating their support for the Palestinian people’s pursuit of freedom, independence, and the establishment of a state based on the 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as its capital.

The situation in Libya was also addressed. Both leaders emphasized the importance of an inclusive, Libyan-led political solution achieved through free elections. This process, they asserted, should lead to the establishment of legitimate institutions, preserve Libya’s unity, and ensure the Libyan people’s sovereignty over their land while putting an end to foreign interference.

President Tebboune also noted that the discussions extensively covered developments in the Sahel and Sahara region.

Regarding Sudan, the Algerian President stated that the country is witnessing a real humanitarian tragedy and suffering from blatant interference that is fueling strife. “We have expressed our rejection of the interventions with dire consequences that continue to harm this brotherly country and exacerbate the situation, exceeding all the principles, values, and ethical and political foundations upon which the traditions of cooperation, solidarity, and collaboration in the Arab region and the African continent are based,” he said.

The Algerian President affirmed his aspiration for increased cooperation and partnership between the two countries for their mutual benefit.
