Gaza – The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported a staggering increase in casualties resulting from the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip. As of today, the death toll has reached 69,182, with 170,694 individuals wounded since October 7, 2023.
Health officials emphasize that women and children constitute a significant proportion of the victims. In the past 24 hours alone, hospitals in Gaza received three bodies and treated one injured person. Rescue and civil defense teams continue to face immense challenges in reaching victims trapped under rubble and in unsecured areas.
Since the ceasefire came into effect on October 10th, 245 Palestinians have been killed and 623 injured, according to the Ministry. Additionally, the remains of 529 individuals have been recovered from the debris.
Critics and observers have decried the situation as a humanitarian catastrophe. The conflict, now spanning over two years, has resulted in widespread destruction, displacement, and allegations of severe human rights violations. International appeals and orders from the International Court of Justice calling for a cessation of hostilities have, to date, had little impact on the ground.
The dire situation in Gaza underscores the urgent need for a lasting resolution to the conflict and unimpeded access for humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of the civilian population.
