Algiers – Algeria and the United States are exploring new avenues for energy partnership, focusing on expanding cooperation into manufacturing and clean technologies. The discussions took place during a meeting on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, between the Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, and the United States Ambassador to Algeria, Elizabeth Moore Aubin.
The meeting, held at the Ministry headquarters, involved senior officials from both sides. Discussions centered on the existing Algerian-American relationship in the energy and mining sectors, with a strong emphasis on identifying opportunities to broaden collaboration, particularly in the manufacturing of equipment related to the oil and gas industry.
Minister Arkab highlighted the importance of ongoing consultations and exchanges between Algerian and American companies, referencing the existing cooperation between Sonatrach and both ExxonMobil and Chevron. He advocated for expanding cooperation to encompass transformative industries and modern technologies aimed at reducing carbon emissions, aligning with global energy transition trends. Arkab specifically emphasized the pursuit of strategic partnerships in manufacturing and clean technologies.
Both parties acknowledged the necessity of bolstering research, innovation, and the exchange of expertise and training in advanced oil and gas technologies. This focus aims to enhance local value addition and promote the transfer of knowledge and technology.
Ambassador Aubin expressed her satisfaction with the excellent state of bilateral relations, affirming that Algeria offers an attractive investment climate and fosters growing confidence among American companies. She noted the eagerness of American businesses to strengthen their presence in the Algerian market through long-term partnerships in oil, gas, and clean energy sectors. Aubin described Algeria as a reliable energy partner.
Both sides concluded the meeting by reaffirming their shared commitment to continued dialogue and cooperation, particularly in light of the evolving global energy markets, to serve the interests of both nations and promote sustainable development.
