US Eyes Deeper Economic Ties with Algeria

Algiers, November 12, 2025 – The United States is actively seeking to expand its economic investments in Algeria, particularly within the energy and mining sectors. This comes as global energy markets and natural resource landscapes undergo significant shifts.

Algeria’s Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, met with the United States Ambassador to Algeria, Elizabeth Moore Aubin, at the ministry headquarters on Wednesday. Senior officials from both sides were also present during the discussions.

The meeting served as an opportunity to review the state of Algerian-American bilateral relations and explore avenues for strengthening cooperation, especially in the fields of hydrocarbons and mining. Discussions also focused on expanding collaboration into other areas of mutual interest, such as the manufacturing of equipment and supplies related to the oil and gas industry.

Both parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to fostering dialogue and cooperation between Algeria and the United States, particularly in light of the evolving global energy and resource markets. The goal is to serve the interests of both nations and promote sustainable development.

Minister Arkab emphasized the importance of ongoing exchanges and consultations between Algerian and American companies, specifically highlighting the relationships between Sonatrach and major US firms like ExxonMobil and Chevron. He advocated for broadening cooperation to include manufacturing and modern technologies aimed at reducing emissions.

The potential for collaboration in innovation, research and development, knowledge exchange, and training in advanced technologies related to the oil and gas industry were also discussed. These initiatives aim to increase local value addition and facilitate the transfer of knowledge and technology.

Ambassador Aubin expressed her satisfaction with the strong relationship between the two countries. She praised the positive business environment in Algeria and the confidence that American companies have in the Algerian market. She further emphasized the interest of US companies in strengthening their presence and investments in Algeria through long-term partnerships in the oil and gas sector. This renewed interest underscores the growing importance of Algeria as a key economic partner for the United States in the region.
