Algeria and the United States are exploring ways to broaden their collaboration in the energy sector and emerging technologies. Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, received the US Ambassador to Algeria, Elizabeth Moore Aubin, at the ministry headquarters on Wednesday to discuss strengthening bilateral ties.
During the meeting, both parties reviewed the current state of Algerian-American relations, focusing on opportunities to enhance cooperation in the hydrocarbons and mining sectors. Discussions also centered on expanding collaboration into areas of mutual interest, such as the manufacturing of equipment and materials related to the oil and gas industry.
Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to bolstering dialogue and cooperation between Algeria and the United States, particularly in light of the evolving global energy and natural resource markets. This collaboration aims to serve the interests of both nations and promote sustainable development.
Minister Arkab emphasized the importance of ongoing exchanges and consultations between Algerian and American companies, specifically highlighting the relationships between Sonatrach and major US firms like ExxonMobil and Chevron. He advocated for expanding cooperation to include transformative industries and modern technologies aimed at reducing emissions.
The discussions also touched upon potential collaboration in innovation, research and development, knowledge exchange, and training in advanced technologies relevant to the oil and gas industry. The goal is to increase local added value and facilitate the transfer of knowledge and technology.
Ambassador Aubin expressed her satisfaction with the strong relationship between the two countries. She commended Algeria’s positive business environment and the confidence that American institutions have in the Algerian market. She also confirmed the interest of US companies in strengthening their presence and investments in Algeria through long-term partnerships in the oil and gas sectors.
