Algerian Parties Welcome Release of Boualem Sansal

Several Algerian political parties have voiced their support for the recent release of Boualem Sansal, a prominent writer and intellectual. The move has been described by some as a demonstration of Algeria’s sovereignty and a rejection of external pressures.

The National Democratic Rally (RND), in a statement, affirmed that President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s decision to release Sansal falls within his constitutional prerogatives, following a final judicial ruling. The RND emphasized that this legal decision and diplomatic act reflects the wisdom of the President and underscores the sovereignty of the Algerian state and the independence of its national decisions.

The RND statement further asserted that Algeria, governed by strong institutions and a sovereign decision-making process, only pays attention to its true friends and partners who appreciate its wisdom and national responsibility, far from any attempts at pressure or political dictates. The party also suggested that the release effectively neutralizes attempts by certain parties to exploit the situation and tarnish Algeria’s image, referring to past efforts to undermine the Algerian judiciary during its handling of the Sansal case.

The RND reiterated its full support for all constitutional and political measures taken by President Tebboune to strengthen the domestic front and consolidate mutual trust between the citizen and the state.

Similarly, the Future Front Party lauded President Tebboune’s decision to grant a presidential pardon to Boualem Sansal. The party considers it a wise move that embodies the depth of national vision and the leadership’s responsibility in establishing a fair and merciful state, built on equality in dealing with various issues and with national sovereignty above all consideration.

The Future Front Party pointed out that this decision is based on the constitutional and legal foundation stipulated in Article 91, paragraph 8 of the Algerian Constitution, which authorizes the President of the Republic to exercise the right of pardon as a symbol of sovereignty and a manifestation of mercy and fairness in a state of law and institutions.

The party further stated that the presidential pardon, in the current national and international context, carries a strong message that Algeria is steadily moving towards stability and prioritizing the supreme interest of the nation. It added that such a decision opens new horizons for addressing various issues with a responsible national spirit and confirms the state’s determination to move forward on the path of reform.

The Future Front Party concluded by reiterating its appreciation and pride in this courageous sovereign decision.
