Algiers, DZWatch – As the legislative term nears its end, several members of the People’s National Assembly (APN) have used their interventions during the debate on the finance law to address the concerns of sports clubs, in a move widely seen as an attempt to appeal to their supporters ahead of upcoming elections.
During the discussions, MP Mohamed Kourichi of the National Liberation Front (FLN), called on the Minister of Sports, Walid Sadi, to address what he described as the “repeated injustice suffered by JS Kabylie, particularly regarding biased refereeing.” The representative for Tizi Ouzou also demanded that the management of the “Mujahid Hocine Aït Ahmed” stadium be handed over to the club’s administration, in accordance with the instructions of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
In a more critical tone, MP Cherif Benhamou, from the National Construction Movement, criticized the Minister of Sports for the delayed fulfillment of promises made to the Chabab Sidi Ali team in Mostaganem. These promises included restoring the team’s prominence in the sports scene and providing material and moral compensation.
Furthermore, Rachid Bouamri, the MP for Constantine, urged Minister Sadi to support and finance the football team, Zighoud Youcef, and the handball team representing Constantine in the top division of the Zighoud Youcef municipality.
Many interventions by APN members before government officials focused on advocating for their respective regions and addressing local issues during the three-day discussion of the 2026 finance bill. Over 200 MPs presented requests to the ministers present, concerning the implementation of projects and the resolution of problems affecting the residents of their constituencies. The timing of these interventions has raised eyebrows, with some suggesting a direct link to the upcoming elections.
