Gouiri Optimistic About Algeria’s Chances in AFCON 2025

Olympique Marseille forward Amine Gouiri has expressed his mixed feelings regarding Algeria’s participation in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025, scheduled to be held in Morocco from December 21st to January 18th.

Speaking to Qatari media outlet Al Kass, Gouiri confirmed that his recovery from a right shoulder injury is progressing well at the Aspetar center in Doha. He added that he will continue his rehabilitation until November 21st.

“The situation is difficult for me, as I will miss the Africa Cup of Nations for the second time in a row,” Gouiri stated. “However, I am optimistic about the team’s ability to go far in the tournament.”

The Algerian international emphasized his confidence in the national team’s competitive spirit. “I am confident that the Algerian team will be a strong contender and will do its best to achieve positive results,” he said, reiterating his full support for his teammates despite his absence from the competition.

Algeria finds itself in Group E alongside Sudan, Burkina Faso, and Equatorial Guinea. The team aims to advance beyond the group stage for the first time since the 2019 edition in Egypt, following disappointing performances in the last two tournaments held in Cameroon and Ivory Coast.

Gouiri is focused on a swift recovery from his injury, with the goal of representing Algeria in the 2026 World Cup after the nation secured its official qualification. He remains a key player for the national team’s future ambitions.
