The Moroccan government is facing renewed criticism for allegedly allowing ships carrying military equipment destined for Israel to transit through its ports. Critics claim this action disregards the will of the Moroccan people, who largely oppose such cooperation. The controversy centers around the vessel ‘Nysted Maersk,’ reportedly carrying military supplies.
The ship, operated by Maersk Line, departed from Tangier Med port en route to occupied Palestinian territories. Sources indicate that the cargo includes significant quantities of military equipment, sparking concerns about its potential use in ongoing conflicts, particularly in Gaza.
Organizations dedicated to monitoring maritime traffic have tracked the ship’s course, noting its passage from the waters between Oujda, Morocco, and Almeria, Spain, towards its destination. The Moroccan Front for Support of Palestine and Against Normalization has alleged that the ship is carrying three containers of U.S. military supplies intended for the Israeli army.
According to the organization, the containers arrived in Tangier via another vessel the previous week, despite protests. The cargo is reportedly classified as ‘Category A,’ the highest international hazard rating, indicating the presence of highly explosive, flammable, or toxic materials.
Critics have condemned the Moroccan government’s actions, describing the facilitation of military supplies through Moroccan ports as a blatant act of complicity. The controversy highlights the deep divisions within Moroccan society regarding relations with Israel. The situation continues to be closely monitored.
