Istanbul, Turkey – The third Palestinian National Dialogue Conference commenced today in Istanbul, drawing participants from 28 countries. Organized by the Popular Conference for Palestinians Abroad, the two-day event is themed “Unifying the Palestinian Position in the Face of Extermination and Displacement.”
The conference brings together a diverse group of Palestinian figures, including academics, media professionals, and representatives from across the diaspora. The timing of the conference is considered critical, given the ongoing situation in Gaza and the broader political landscape following the recent ceasefire agreement.
Organizers state the conference aims to facilitate a reassessment of Palestinian priorities, foster internal unity, and capitalize on the unprecedented wave of regional and international solidarity. Participants are expected to address key challenges facing the Palestinian cause, including displacement, land annexation, and the need for a unified national strategy.
The opening session featured discussions emphasizing the urgent need for cohesive national leadership and a comprehensive project that encompasses both Palestinians within the occupied territories and those abroad. Speakers stressed the importance of resisting efforts to displace Palestinians and liquidate the Palestinian cause, while affirming the role of resistance as a strategic option in confronting the occupation.
During his opening remarks, Munir Shafiq, head of the Popular Conference for Palestinians Abroad, underscored that confronting the challenges surrounding the Palestinian cause demands national unity. He cautioned that the transition from a state of war to a state of “quasi-war” in Gaza carries significant risks, and he alleged attempts to advance occupation plans through the framework of the Trump plan.
Shafiq further stated that supporting Palestinian resistance is a national duty to preserve the liberation project, and that thwarting plans to liquidate the Palestinian cause can only be achieved through unity of decision and position.
The acting Secretary-General of the Popular Conference is also expected to address the conference.
