Algiers, Algeria – September 11, 2023 – Sonatrach, Algeria’s state-owned oil and gas company, has donated 60 school buses to remote areas of the country. The buses will be used to transport students to and from school, providing a much-needed service to those who live in areas with limited access to public transportation.

The donation was made in conjunction with the company’s 60th anniversary celebration. It was attended by Algerian Minister of Energy and Mines Mohamed Arkab, Minister of Interior and Local Communities Ibrahim Mourad, Minister of Education Abdelhakim Belabed, Sonatrach CEO Toufik Hakkar, and mayors of the beneficiary municipalities.

Sonatrach said the buses will help to fill a gap in transportation for students in remote areas. The company said it worked with the Ministry of Interior and Local Communities to identify the eligible municipalities.

“This donation is a reflection of our commitment to improving the lives of people in remote areas,” said Sonatrach CEO Toufik Hakkar. “It is also a testament to our commitment to social responsibility.”

The donation is part of Sonatrach’s broader social investment strategy, which aims to contribute to the development and improvement of living conditions for Algerians across the country
