Non-Aligned Movement Praises President Tebboune’s Leadership

Kampala, October 17, 2025 – The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) has commended Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for his pivotal role in strengthening joint African action, championing just causes, and consolidating international cooperation to serve the interests of the Global South.

The final document, issued at the conclusion of the 19th NAM Ministerial Meeting held in Kampala on October 15th and 16th, specifically highlighted President Tebboune’s efforts within the African Union. This included his mandate as the AU coordinator for combating terrorism and his leadership of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) forum of Heads of State.

The NAM also welcomed President Tebboune’s proposal to establish an African Day to honor the martyrs and victims of colonialism in Africa. Furthermore, they applauded his intention to organize an international conference on colonial crimes in coordination with the African Union Commission.

President Tebboune’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people was also recognized. This includes his personal involvement in unifying Palestinian factions and Algeria’s efforts under his leadership at the UN Security Council to support the Palestinian cause.

The Non-Aligned Movement further shed light on Algeria’s efforts to advance multilateral international action in the interest of the Global South. Examples included Algeria’s successful leadership of the negotiations on the UN Convention on Countering the Use of Information and Communication Technologies for Criminal Purposes. Also recognized was Algeria’s leadership of the Ad Hoc Committee to Elaborate a Comprehensive International Convention on Countering the Use of Information and Communication Technologies for Criminal Purposes, as well as its direct contribution to the adoption by the Human Rights Council of an important resolution on the impact of anti-personnel mines.
