National Gendarmerie Issues Safety Advice for HIGER Bus Drivers

Algiers, November 16, 2025 – The National Gendarmerie has issued a crucial safety advisory specifically aimed at drivers of HIGER buses. The warning highlights potential dangers associated with exceeding speed limits in these vehicles.

In a public service announcement disseminated through its “My Road” social media platform, the Gendarmerie addressed drivers directly: “Dear driver of a HIGER passenger transport vehicle, we offer this advice for your safety and the safety of your passengers.”

The core of the advisory focuses on the speed rating indicated by the “Q” symbol on HIGER bus tires. This rating corresponds to a maximum speed of 160 km/h. The Gendarmerie cautions that while the tires are rated for this speed, consistently driving at or near this limit poses a significant risk.

“Be aware, dear driver, that this type of bus carries an indicator ‘Q,’ which corresponds to a maximum speed of 160 km/h (which exceeds the maximum speed allowed by law). Furthermore, if the driver deliberately travels at this speed for a distance of between 3 km and 5 km, he exposes the tires to a tremendous increase in temperature,” the statement explained.

This excessive heat buildup, according to the National Gendarmerie, can have dire consequences. “This leads to tire explosions and, consequently, accidents,” the statement warned.

The Gendarmerie’s message concludes with a clear call to action: “Therefore, we remind you, dear driver, to respect legal speed limits and not exceed them in order to preserve your safety and the safety of the passengers who are entrusted to your care.”

DZWatch News urges all drivers, particularly those operating passenger vehicles, to heed this important safety advice from the National Gendarmerie. Prioritizing safe driving practices is paramount to preventing accidents and protecting lives.
