Algiers, Algeria – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune presided over a Council of Ministers meeting today, focusing on key development projects and administrative reforms across the country. The meeting addressed several critical initiatives, including the elevation of administrative districts in the High Plateaus and Southern regions to full provincial status, progress on the Gara Djebilet iron ore mine and the Tindouf-Bechar railway line, the construction of a 500-bed university hospital in Constantine, and the procurement of specialized equipment to support the development of digitization.
Following a presentation by the Prime Minister on the government’s activities over the past two weeks, and subsequent discussions among ministers, President Tebboune issued several directives:
General Directives:
- An investigation has been ordered into the causes of the recent fires that affected several provinces simultaneously.
- The Minister of Finance has been tasked with preparing a proposal to raise the minimum wage.
- The Minister of Finance will also prepare a proposal to increase unemployment benefits.
- Continuous monitoring of public spaces is required to ensure security and cleanliness across all provinces.
- Public and private transportation operators must adhere to strict cleanliness standards, particularly in Algiers and tourist destinations.
New Provinces:
The Council of Ministers approved the promotion of eleven administrative districts in the High Plateaus and Southern regions to full provincial status. These include:
Aflou, Brika, Ksar Chellala, Messaad, Ain Oussera, Boussada, El Bayadh Sidi Cheikh, El Kantara, Bir El Ater, Ksar El Boukhari, and El Aricha.
President Tebboune instructed the immediate completion of administrative procedures with both houses of Parliament.
Tindouf-Bechar Railway:
The Minister of Public Works was instructed to prepare for the inauguration of the new railway line connecting Tindouf and Bechar in January 2026. This event will mark the official launch of operations and will be celebrated as a national achievement, heralding a new era of economic development for Algeria.
Gara Djebilet Mine:
President Tebboune ordered the commencement of utilization and exploitation of the Gara Djebilet mine.
