Berlin, Germany – Vodafone Germany has issued a widespread warning to its mobile phone customers, urging them to be vigilant against fraudulent calls. The company revealed that its systems have displayed a “Potential Fraud Warning!” message on German mobile phones during approximately 41 million calls between late April and mid-November.
The alerts are designed to ensure recipients exercise caution and refrain from disclosing personal information or transferring funds to suspicious callers. Vodafone is specifically warning against scam calls originating from numbers that appear to be foreign, as these are frequently used in deception schemes.
On average, Vodafone issues around 210,000 warnings daily to its mobile users, with a slight increase in recent weeks. Despite the high volume of alerts, the acceptance rate of these flagged calls – meaning the number of people who answered after seeing the warning – is reportedly around 12%.
Germany has been actively combating widespread fraud networks and cyberattacks. Earlier this month, authorities announced the arrest of 18 individuals involved in an international fraud and money laundering ring. This network is alleged to have caused financial damages estimated at around €300 million (approximately $344 million) between 2016 and 2021. The scheme involved subscriptions to fake websites facilitated by payment service providers within Germany.
