Algeria, African Development Bank Forge Promising Energy Alliance

Algiers – Algeria and the African Development Bank (AfDB) are poised to strengthen cooperation in key energy and infrastructure projects across the continent. The announcement follows a high-level meeting in Algiers between Algerian Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, and AfDB President, Dr. Sidi Ould Tah.

The meeting, held on November 17, 2025, focused on enhancing collaboration in sectors crucial to Algeria’s and Africa’s development. These include the expansion of oil and gas industries, the exploitation and processing of mineral resources, seawater desalination projects, and the financing of large-scale infrastructure initiatives with continental impact.

Minister Arkab presented a comprehensive overview of Algeria’s developmental programs, emphasizing projects related to hydrocarbon exploration, production, and processing, along with the valorization of mineral wealth. He also highlighted Algeria’s ambitions to expand its seawater desalination capacity to secure water resources and the ongoing phosphate exploitation and processing project.

“Algeria is committed to fostering African-African cooperation in sustainable energy and regional connectivity,” stated Minister Arkab. He affirmed Algeria’s willingness to share its expertise in hydrocarbon exploration and processing, the distribution of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) across the continent, geological studies and training, and the management and execution of major projects.

Dr. Sidi Ould Tah lauded Algeria’s developmental vision under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, highlighting the progress achieved in the national economy, infrastructure, and strategic sectors. He affirmed the AfDB’s readiness to support and finance priority projects, particularly in hydrocarbon development and processing, seawater desalination, energy infrastructure, and the exploitation of strategic minerals both domestically and continentally.

The AfDB President reiterated the bank’s appreciation for Algeria’s role within African financial institutions and expressed the group’s commitment to deepening the partnership to bolster continental integration and economic empowerment.
