Algiers – The African Development Bank (AfDB) has lauded Algeria’s developmental vision under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, recognizing the nation as a benchmark for progress in Africa. Dr. Sidi Ould Tah, President of the AfDB, highlighted Algeria’s advancements in its national economy, infrastructure development, and growing capabilities within strategic sectors.
The AfDB expressed its readiness to support and finance priority projects in Algeria, particularly those focused on:
- Developing and transforming hydrocarbons
- Seawater desalination
- Energy infrastructure
- Exploiting strategic and critical minerals locally and continentally
Dr. Ould Tah reaffirmed the bank’s appreciation for Algeria’s role within African financial institutions and its commitment to deepening partnerships to foster economic integration and shared development across the continent.
These discussions mark a significant step towards expanding cooperation between Algeria and the AfDB, especially as Algeria emerges as a key energy and mineral power within Africa, focusing on strategic projects with continental impact.
The Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, received Dr. Sidi Ould Tah, President of the AfDB Group, and his high-level delegation on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the ministry headquarters. The Secretary of State in charge of Mines, Karima Bakir Tafer, and several central executives were also present.
The meeting centered on exploring avenues to strengthen cooperation between Algeria and the African Development Bank, with a focus on priority sectors such as developing the oil and gas industries, valorizing and transforming mineral resources, seawater desalination projects, and financing major structural projects of continental significance.
