Algiers, November 17, 2025 – The Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Mr. Saïd Seioud, today received Mr. Sidi Ould Tah, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, at the ministry headquarters.
According to a ministry statement, the meeting focused on exploring avenues to strengthen the partnership between Algeria and the AfDB Group. The AfDB is recognized as a leading financial institution supporting economic and social development projects across the African continent.
Discussions during the meeting centered on key areas of cooperation and partnership. These included supporting national efforts aimed at developing vital sectors, particularly transport, railway infrastructure, and port facilities. The meeting also addressed prospects for joint initiatives between Algeria and the African Development Bank.
Minister Seioud highlighted significant national projects underway under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. These include the construction of desalination plants along the national coastline to enhance water security, and the completion of 950 km of railway lines extending into the Sahara Desert, utilizing national expertise. He also emphasized the priority given by the President to mining development prospects.
The Minister also touched upon substantial investments launched by the state to achieve food security. He stated that cooperation with the African Development Bank would provide significant support to this dynamic and align with the approach of strengthening African integration.
For his part, the AfDB President acknowledged the national dynamic observed in Algeria, emphasizing the scale of investments undertaken and the promising pace of development. He stressed the importance of sharing these experiences with other African countries, given the common challenges faced. The AfDB reiterated its commitment to supporting Algeria’s development goals and fostering regional cooperation.
