Algiers, November 17, 2025 – The International Electricity and Renewable Energy Exhibition, ‘Electricity Expo 2025,’ officially opened today at the Palais des Expositions in Algiers. The Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mourad Adjjal, presided over the inaugural ceremony.
In his address, Minister Adjjal emphasized the significance of this inaugural edition of ‘Electricity Expo,’ highlighting its role as a platform for dialogue and the exchange of ideas. He noted that the expo addresses crucial topics such as new digital technologies, sustainable solutions, and advancements in electrical equipment.
The Minister further stated that the conference is crucial for stakeholders at both institutional and industrial levels. It allows them to share experiences and insights regarding challenges and solutions in developing the electrical industry and promoting economic growth.
Adjjal emphasized that the organization of this event aligns with the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. These directives focus on promoting the electrical industries sector, strengthening its position, and exploring partnership opportunities to enhance its activities. The ultimate goal is to improve the competitiveness of national production within this strategic sector.
The Minister acknowledged the significant challenges facing the electricity sector, including increasing energy demand, integrating larger shares of renewable energy into the grid, and reducing the carbon footprint through electrification of transport and industry. He also cited digitization and the widespread adoption of artificial intelligence as factors driving increased electricity demand, while also providing new opportunities for forecasting and capacity improvement.
Minister Adjjal commended Sonelgaz, describing it as a ‘role model’ and the driving force behind the country’s electricity industry. He highlighted Sonelgaz’s role in qualifying over 164 electrical equipment manufacturers and 34 gas equipment manufacturers since 2005.
Looking ahead, the Minister stressed the importance of increasing the national integration rate, which currently exceeds 50% in most value chains. This advancement, he believes, will enable Algeria to access foreign markets, particularly in Africa.
