Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, has explored avenues for strengthening cooperation between Algeria and the African Development Bank (AfDB) during a meeting with the Bank’s President, Sidi Ould Tah.
Discussions centered on strategic areas including the development of oil and gas industries, the valorization and processing of mineral resources, seawater desalination projects, and the financing of structural projects with a continental scope.
The meeting, which included the Secretary of State in charge of Mines, Karima Bakhir Tafer, and senior ministry officials, saw Minister Arkab present an overview of the sector’s development programs. He highlighted hydrocarbon development and processing initiatives, major projects in the processing and phosphate industries, and Algeria’s efforts in seawater desalination.
Arkab emphasized Algeria’s commitment to strengthening African-African cooperation in the field of sustainable energy, increasing production capacities, and connecting regional networks. The Minister indicated Algeria’s readiness to share its expertise in exploration, hydrocarbon processing, LPG distribution, geological studies, and major project management to support the efficient implementation of energy and mining projects.
Sidi Ould Tah commended Algeria’s development vision, affirming the Bank’s readiness to support Algeria in financing its strategic projects and leveraging its experience in hydrocarbon exploitation and processing, seawater desalination, infrastructure development, and the valorization of strategic minerals. He also expressed interest in transferring this expertise to other countries on the continent.
The President of the African Development Bank reiterated the Bank’s commitment to deepening the bilateral partnership and supporting initiatives that promote economic integration and shared development in Africa. The discussions signal a strong intent to foster closer ties between Algeria and the AfDB.
This collaboration aims to unlock new opportunities for sustainable growth and development across the continent.
