Oran, Algeria – Prime Minister Sifi Ghrib officially launched the inaugural edition of the National Skills Olympics – WorldSkills Algeria – at the Miloud Hadefi Olympic Complex in Oran on Monday, November 17, 2025. The event, held under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, marks a significant milestone in the development of vocational training and education in Algeria.
The Prime Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to empowering Algerian youth and building a skills-based economy. He stated that this event is not merely a national competition but a clear message reflecting the state’s determination to achieve leadership in skills and modern technologies.
“Algeria’s official accession to the WorldSkills Africa initiative is an implementation of a comprehensive strategic vision set by the President of the Republic to build an economic system based on innovation and professional capabilities with international standards,” Ghrib noted.
He stressed that national pride extends beyond engineers and doctors to include artisans, technicians, and all those who contribute to strengthening Algeria’s economic independence and achieving its sustainable development. “Just as we are proud of our engineers and doctors, we are also proud of our artisans and technicians; they are the makers of our productive strength,” the Prime Minister stated.
Addressing the participants, Ghrib affirmed that the young faces participating in the competitions reflect a strong will and burning ambition to build a better future, emphasizing that this spirit makes Algeria more confident in its ability to achieve its development dreams. He highlighted Algeria’s ambition to transform vocational training graduates into entrepreneurs capable of creating wealth and added value, rather than merely job seekers, as part of a national endeavor to encourage innovation and promote a productive economy.
This first edition features dozens of competitors from various regions of the country, representing multiple professional specializations, with hopes that Algeria will become an important player in regional and international professional competitions in the future. The focus remains on cultivating a skilled workforce to drive economic diversification and sustainable progress.
