Minister of Communication, Zohir Bouamama, has outlined a comprehensive plan to reform and modernize Algeria’s communication sector. The announcement highlights a significant transformation underway, guided by the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
During a presentation before the People’s National Assembly’s Committee on Culture, Communication, and Tourism, Minister Bouamama detailed the key pillars of the sector’s development. He emphasized that the Ministry is adopting a holistic vision based on assessment, modernization, and digitalization, all while striving to enhance media outlets, solidify freedom of expression, and safeguard national identity.
Minister Bouamama stressed the importance of activating the new legal framework by completing a series of measures, including the establishment of regulatory authorities and a council for professional ethics.
Furthermore, the Minister revealed a series of steps the Ministry intends to implement, such as regulating the advertising and opinion polling sectors, revising the President of the Republic’s Award for Professional Journalists, and restructuring the Ministry’s central administration. He also mentioned the launch of several digitalization projects, encompassing network upgrades, document digitization, the development of media monitoring platforms, and the modernization of both the Algeria Press Service and the Audiovisual Archives.
Bouamama also affirmed the necessity of advancing training programs for journalists and media professionals, and supporting innovation through partnerships with scientific research institutions.
The Minister concluded by announcing the completion of the draft National Strategy for Institutional Communication. This strategy aims to strengthen trust between the state and its citizens, and to reinforce Algeria’s image both domestically and internationally. The strategy will focus on transparency and effective communication.
